This Update has THREE important messages this week which we would ask you to please read.

All football CANCELLED this weekend – 9-11 September
U11-U14 Divisional request changes
U7s/U8s squad sizes update

All Football CANCELLED this weekend – 9-11 September

After the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II yesterday and in respect to the Royal Family, The FA have issued a statement cancelling all football for this coming weekend. The YEL therefore have postponed all of our fixtures.

The U7 to U10 matches will be rescheduled shortly.

U11-U14 Divisional request changes

U11s to U14s will be commencing their Winter League fixture programmes shortly. The divisions have been out for a while. See Full-Time to check your division.

Any U11-U14 team that feels they are in the wrong division MUST email the YEL Office – yel@live.co.uk by 2pm Saturday 10th September – stating the reasons why they feel they are in the wrong division and a suggestion of where they should be – higher or lower. These emails will be looked at a decision made by the league. There is no guarantee we will be able to accommodate requests but we will look at each one individually

Update for U7/U8 squads

It has been pointed out that the YEL Regulations regarding maximum squad sizes of being double the playing format for the U7s & U8s was not updated in line with the information we have been outlining in our recent communications. The sentiment in the messages from the league is absolutely correct and the regulations will be updated next season to reflect this. For this season however, we will follow the regulations as set so U7s/U8s can have unlimited players in the squads regardless of the number of teams in the club at that age group.

The reason for the limit surrounds player development and it is totally wrong for young players learning the game not to be playing football and developing their skills at this age if they are ready and available to play at weekends. However, the maximum match day squad size is restricted to double the playing format so excess squad players would be unable to play. This maximum match day squad size is correct and is not being amended so 10 on the day is the limit and must be complied with.

So, to clarify, U7s/U8s squads can have unlimited players registered as per the current approved and voted in regulations (although common sense should always prevail and if sufficient players are training and available, a new squad should be created at the earliest opportunity and entered into the league to provide everyone with game time)
