Work of YEL Community Fund panel starts with first ever meeting

The YEL Community Fund panel held their first meeting on Wednesday 10th March.

The meeting was chaired by Serena French (YEL staff) who welcomed the panel and thanked them for volunteering their time to such a worthy project. The panel represent a broad cross section of the membership of the league and are drawn from YEL Referees, YEL Club Secretaries, YEL Managers and Parents of YEL Players from all points of the YEL Region – North, South, East and West – to ensure fairness when deliberating over the applications to the YEL Community Fund.

The meeting opened with a “who is who” and it was a pleasure to be able a put a face to a name and meet a few of the remarkable group of people who volunteer their time week in week out to provide grassroots football for our 15,000 players. Once introductions were made, Rob Harwood CEO, discussed the ethos behind the creation of the YEL Community Fund and the values including fairness and equality that we are looking to uphold.

The panel discussed the possible requirements of clubs following the return to football and by a unanimous vote the panel decided that the closing date for acceptance of grant applications for period 4 (2021) would be extended until 16th April 2021 with awards being made shortly after and distributed by the end of April. This is the last period for the 20/21 season where funds for grants totalling £1250 will be made available. The YEL Community Fund is open to YEL member clubs for grants from £25 up to a maximum of £250. There is an almost endless list of things that an application can be submitted for. The YEL Community Fund panel will look at all applications on their individual merits but each must demonstrate a benefit to YEL member club or its individual membership for it to be considered for acceptance.

The only question members should ask themselves is…

Why would we not complete an application!
