Heading and throw in rule changes for U7s to U9s for season 2024-25

After the no heading pilot carried out by The FA over the last two years which the YEL we involved in, The FA have issued new rules for all competitions across the country. These no heading rules only apply U7s, U8s & U9s this season. We understand from The FA that all coaches and parents have been made aware of the new rules. In brief, if a player makes a deliberate movement of the head towards the ball and it makes contact, an indirect free kick will be awarded to the opposition at the point where the offence took place unless a player deliberately heads the ball within their own penalty area. The referee will stop the game and restart with an indirect free kick to the opposition from the nearest side line of the penalty area where the offence took place.

The other major change alongside this is that throw ins will no longer take place. These have been replaced by kick ins or dribble ins. At the point where the ball goes out of play, the player will either dribble the ball into play or will make a pass to another player.

Deadline for team applications – two important dates – 1st July & 24th July

New team applications – U9-U141st July – We will continue to accept applications for new teams up to this date for guaranteed inclusion in a division provided:
1. All teams are registered on Scoreline by this date
2. The club affiliation has been completed by 24th July.

24th July – We will continue to consider applications between 1st July up until 24th July – these teams will only be accepted if there is space in divisions and the standards are correct for those spaces and provided the club affiliation has been completed by 24th July.

Please get any remaining team apps in ASAP. Work on finalising divisions will happen up until the end of July. No further U9-U14 apps considered after 24th July.

U7-U8 – applications will be taken up to 24th July for guaranteed Sept start subject to affiliation being completed by 24th July. Applications will continue to be accepted up until early December 2024 with entry confirmed at various points during this period.

Team names for 2024-25 season

If you enter two or more teams at the same age group playing on the same day, it is essential that both teams have a distinguishing name/colour after them. We cannot accept just a club name for one team and a colour/name for another.

Eg YEL United FC U12 and YEL United FC U12 Red – no longer acceptable.

Examples of what are acceptable YEL Utd U12 Blue & YEL Utd U12 Red or YEL United U12 Warriors & YEL United U12 Trojans

Payment processing delay on Scoreline

Apology. Our bookkeeper has been away for a few days so payments to the league have not been processed as quickly as usual. Any payments made in the last 14 days should be showing on Scoreline by Monday 1st July

Teams considering playing up a year

Can we remind all teams that are thinking of playing up a year of the following League Regulation:

17. Teams wishing to play up a year
In order for an existing YEL team to be considered for playing up a year, they must make
the request by email to the YEL Office and agree to both of the conditions below:
(i) Be in agreement to play the whole period from Sept to May in the upper age group
(ii) Accept that the team will initially be placed in Level 2 or higher of the age group above
at the discretion of the league.

We will not encourage or permit teams to leapfrog a format which has been specifically designed by The FA to develop children unless there is a valid reason to do so.
