Abuse of children (or adults) who referee is vile

Sadly, for some teams this message may come too late as there are a number of teams currently on red on the league Respect traffic light system for abuse of referees who have an additional case currently with the County FAs. If they are found guilty and charged AGAIN, they will be called to a Special General Meeting of the membership for them to decide on the team’s future involvement in the YEL.

This message has been sent out time and time again and yet certain individuals still think it is acceptable to abuse referees and in some instances reduce them to tears with the result that they walk away from the game. Why on earth do some people think this is acceptable? Adults don’t abuse their children who are players learning the game so why referees who are children learning the game – there is no difference. As we have mentioned in previous updates, we will be calling SGMs for the membership to decide on what, if any, the future involvement in the league will look like for any teams displaying undesirable conduct.

If you are one of these teams with a problem adult – coach or parent – be aware that this is coming and deal with it internally before it gets to this stage. STOP! – Before it’s too late.

Charges and fines from the County FA do not seem to be sufficient to deter these individuals from reoffending. We have a mandate from the membership to act to protect the interests of the 95% who Respect the game and all of the participants, and rest assured, we will act – it is only a matter of time whilst the CFA processes are completed before this happens. ABUSE, YOU LOSE – That’s guaranteed!

PLEASE ENSURE ALL ADULTS WITHIN YOUR TEAM/CLUB ARE AWARE OF THIS UPDATE ITEM. IF YOU FEEL IT COULD APPLY TO YOUR TEAM, SEEK GUIDANCE FROM YOUR CLUB WELFARE OFFICER OR THE COUNTY FA DESIGNATED SAFEGUARDING OFFICERS – THEY ARE THERE TO HELP.

Changing the final appointments of referees to TUESDAY (from Wednesday) – trial

We have always endeavoured to provide referees right up until Wednesday evening with Full-Time only changing from ‘TBC’ to ‘NONE’ first thing on Thursday morning if we have not been able to locate a referee. In response to a number of teams stating that changing Full-Time status to NONE on Thursday does not give sufficient time to locate their own referee, we have decided to trial moving things earlier by 24 hours.

Referees will be appointed by the league up until TUESDAY evening. Any games that we have not been able to cover will change from ‘TBC’ to ‘NONE’ on a WEDNESDAY morning (instead of Thursday) to give teams an additional 24 hours to find their own referee. We will monitor how this works up until Christmas and then review it.
