YEL Update – 24th October 2025

This Update has FOUR important messages this week, which we would ask you to please read.

  • Checking is nearly complete – 7 DAYS
  • ID Checks – fines for non completion
  • YEL Respect on Scoreline – how it works
  • Home team contacting the away team and referee

Checking is nearly complete – 7 DAYS

We are hoping to send the completed version of the list of teams that are not compliant to the CFAs in seven days time.

If you are a club secretary or welfare officer who has received an email from us with highlighted issues and have NOT responded, please do so with an update/progress ASAP. If you have responded but coaches have not responded to your requests, please chase them up.

We will be emailing all clubs with issues one final time with an updated version before the sheet is sent to the CFAs. This will be sent to clubs by Monday evening at the latest.

This is really important as we want to ensure that children are being coached at training and on match days in a safe environment by qualified coaches who hold all of the required qualifications. If you are in any doubt as to what in date qualifications are required, please check league regulation 1

ID Checks – Fines for non completion

Firstly, thanks to all of the teams who are completing ID checks before the games as per League Regs. There’s been a dramatic improvement this season compared to this time last year.

Reminder on how to complete them
At the game, you should have your printed ID sheet of players/photos downloaded from Club portal. Before the match, go to your opposition manager and exchange sheets. Call in the players from both teams. Call out the names of the opposition players on the sheet in front of you whilst the opposition manger does the same for your players. Exchange sheets back. If any players are not on the list THEY CANNOT PLAY as they are not league registered. This applies to YEL organised friendlies, league matches and cup games. Any issues, call the YEL Hotline for advice on the day – number at the bottom of the Update

Fines process for non completion of Player ID check
As you will note in the League Regulations, teams can be fined up to £100 for not completing a player ID check. We take safeguarding of our players very seriously and unregistered players are not insured and therefore there can be serious repercussions if another child is injured by them let alone for themselves. Teams can be reported by the opposition, referees or our army of Respect Field Officers. Any team found guilty of not carrying out an ID check will be fined £25 for the first offence. If they offend again, the fine will be £50. If they continue to offend, the fine will rise to £100 for the third and subsequent offences. This is how seriously we take this important part of the re match procedure.

YEL Respect on Scoreline – how it works

We’ve had a few questions around why ‘access is denied’ comes up when Club Officials are trying to access a Respect case on Scoreline.

The Scoreline Respect system is set up so clubs can see on their club dashboard two sections for Respect – ‘Reporting teams’ where they have raised a respect case and ‘Reported teams’ where another club has raised a respect case against one of their teams. See below for an explanation

Reporting team
When a club clicks on the case, club officials can see the case information that they have reported/added to the system when they have raised it. They do not see the response from the team they have reported or any notes that the YEL Respect team make. They may be asked further questions by the YEL Respect team based on the response from the team they have reported. They are updated when the case has been investigated by the league or the CFA, and an outcome is sent to them.

Reported team
The reported club’s officials do not have access to the case raised against them. This section is for information only that an issue has been raised against one of their teams. The club secretary and Club Welfare Officer will be emailed by the League Welfare Officer/Respect team alerting them to a report against one of their teams. They will be asked to contact the manager on the day for their general observations around the game and particular incidents may be referenced in order that they can provide their version of the events. Follow up questions from the league/County FA may be asked based on the information provided. It is for the league/County FA to take an objective and independent view.

Scoreline is designed like this so that the matter doesn’t escalate into a slanging match between the teams, coaches, parents, referees etc. Again, once the investigations by the league are complete (often running alongside a County FA investigation), the league will make a decision, taking into account – but not reliant upon – the result of any CFA investigation, should it have been escalated to them. This could involve a change in the Respect traffic light status for team/s and also additional recommendations from the league or sanctions from the County FA.

Home team contacting the away team and referee

Reminder: It is the home team’s responsibility to contact the away team and any appointed referee to confirm the details of the game. It is courteous to do this early ie Monday/Tuesday before the game (NOT Wednesday/Thursday!)

Your message should include details of the venue, kick off time, colours you play in and any other relevant information eg, facilities, changing room availability, no dogs etc. It’s only when you get a reply from both the away team AND the referee that the game is confirmed. If you don’t receive a reply, the game is not confirmed and you should chase it with whoever has not responded – away and/or the referee.
