Cup tied players

With the cup competitions under way for the U9s-U14s, here is a timely reminder to check that any players who have joined your team, have not played in a previous round of the cup for another team this season. If they have, they will be cup tied and ineligible to play for you in the cup.

It is your responsibility to check this. If it is found you have played an ineligible or cup tied player, it is virtually guaranteed your team will be removed from the cup.

REMINDER: YEL Winter awards – players & coaches

Quick reminder for those teams coming to the YEL Winter season Awards at the Royal Concert Hall in February. Players who have already paid the £6 for the trophies and up to three coaches will not receive wristbands/tickets as they don’t need them this year. They enter the auditorium separately to the guests so we will know who they are.

Clarification on postponing friendly fixtures

We have been asked to clarify the rules around postponing friendly games.

Provided this is done in a timely fashion, there are no fines or matches awarded for cancelling friendly games. ALL U7/U8 fixtures are friendly games. U9-U10s only play, 10 league games plus cup matches from September to May; the rest are friendlies. U11s to U14s play less friendlies and more league and cup fixtures.

On a separate note, fines do not relate to weather related cancellations/postponements. We take safeguarding/welfare very seriously and this should be an important consideration for all parents and coaches who should ensure the players – on field and substitutes – are suitably dressed to ensure their wellbeing. It should be remembered that football is a winter sport but if the pitch is unplayable – waterlogged, frozen, snow etc or the weather is so severe – like the storms we have experienced recently – appropriate decisions should be made by the coaches.

YEL Community Fund

We’ve been advised by the YEL Community Fund team that only a few clubs have applied for the current round of funding. The YEL Community Fund has grants available for any YEL member club from £25 to £250. IDEAS FOR GRANTS: Could go towards a large project or fund a small project completely. Could also be used to help fund coaches on FA education courses. Get your application in and the Community Fund panel will look at it. Any club official can apply either on behalf of a team or the club. Simply log into Scoreline – https://portal.yelscoreline.com – and select ‘YEL Community Fund’ from the left hand menu.

Club Tournaments/festivals during the YEL Season – September to May

IMPORTANT: We’ve been made aware that some clubs have created/are thinking of creating festivals/tournaments during the YEL season (September to May). REMINDER: YEL teams cannot enter or play in any other competition during the season without first seeking and obtaining the permission of the league.

FA/League Rule 2(K)
Clubs shall not enter any of their Teams playing at a particular age group in the Competition in any other competition (with the exception of FA and County FA Competitions) except with the written consent of the Management Committee. Failure to comply with this Rule will result in a fine in accordance with the Fines Tariff. A club must immediately inform the Competition of the details of any fixture(s) in which the Club has entered, for which written consent of the Management Committee has been obtained.

The reason for this is that it is unfair on other teams in the league who could be left without games. Whilst some dates may currently appear blank, please be aware that fixtures will be created in them unless we advise otherwise.

TEAMS/COACHES: DO NOT ENTER any non YEL organised festival/tournament without first seeking permission from the YEL – office@yelonline.com – otherwise you will be fined as an absolute minimum.

CLUBS: Can all clubs thinking of setting up a festival/tournament please make a note of this important rule which all teams need to abide by. If in doubt or you have a question about a certain date, bank holidays for example, please seek advice from the YEL Office – office@yelonline.com – BEFORE you do anything. Finally, any events that you do set up, need to be sanctioned by the County FA. They are really hot on this and you could be in serious trouble if you don’t follow the correct process.
