YEL Update – 20th March

👥  Meet the people behind YEL

Before we get into this week’s update, a big shout out to the team working behind the scenes to keep the YEL running week in, week out. From fixtures, discipline, safeguarding and Respect to referee appointments and supporting clubs, there’s a huge amount that goes on in the background – all driven by people who genuinely care about grassroots football, and the experience for every child.

🛡️ Gary – League Welfare Officer
Gary has been involved in grassroots football for over 16 years and is currently part of an U14 girls team (Rubies) in the Notts Girls and Ladies Football League. His focus at YEL is simple – creating a safe environment where children can enjoy football.

⚽ Karen – League Administrator
Karen has a strong football background, with both her children involved in the game,  including a son who referees and plays futsal and also holds a role at Clifton All Whites. She has supported the YEL events team for several years and takes pride in delivering high standards. “My life is football.”

⚽ John – League Administrator
John has been part of YEL for 17 years and involved in grassroots football for over 25 years. From player and parent to coach, club secretary and now league admin, he’s experienced the game from all sides. He takes pride in being part of a strong team creating safe and enjoyable football opportunities for children.

⚽ Sophie – League Administrator
Sophie grew up in a footballing family and has seen first-hand the confidence and joy the game brings. With a background in education, administration and safeguarding, she is passionate about supporting children’s physical and mental wellbeing and enjoys being part of a team focused on continuous improvement.

⚽ Richard – Referee Appointments & Support
Richard has been involved in grassroots football for over 40 years, including 30 years as a referee. He has managed Newark Town Blues from U9 to U16 and spent 8 years supporting referee appointments in the New Newark Youth League. He now supports referee appointments for the YEL, helping ensure games are covered and referees are supported each week.

🏆 Kev – Fixtures & Events
Kev has been involved with YEL for an incredible 32 years, including 16 years as a volunteer and two spells as League Chair. He plays a key role in creating fixtures, organising 70 cup finals and delivering the prestigious YEL Awards.
