Welcome to the under 7s section of the YEL website. As the youngest age group to compete in YEL organised matches this is a big step in the development of young footballers… the focus should be on enjoyment, teamwork and respect.

YEL Teams are regularly adjusted to provide competitive and fun matches between younger age groups, and on ability for U7s to U14s
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
All YEL U7 games are friendlies. The teams are organised into ‘Development Groups’ by the YEL and are moved around dependant on their scores to ensure they are being appropriately challenged – having said that, all matches have a competitive element to them as by the very nature of football, it is one team against another!
No – Scores are never published by the league and should not be at this level. Scores are collected by the league for grading purposes and to ensure children are playing at the appropriate level. FA guidelines also make it clear that scores should not be published by parents, coaches or anyone on social media.
Prior to the season starting, we arrange ‘festivals’ where the teams arrive at one venue and play in short 10 minute games against a number of different teams. These events form a central part of our initial grading process.
At this level, EVERY child should be getting equal playing time when the matches are played. This is an FA guideline which every club and team should be putting into practise as this is one of the key ways a child can develop. Have a word with your coach and if this fails speak to the Club Welfare Officer.
Size 3 – these size balls are perfect to allow 6/7 year olds to learn with as they are lighter and smaller.

- 1st – Re-applications open for existing YEL teams/clubs for 2024/25 season
- 30th – Spring season ends for League games (unless extended by the league)
- 11th/12th – U9&U10 Cup Finals at Clifton FC
- 18th/19th – U11-U14 Cup Finals at Bottesford FC
- 31st – Applications officially close for new clubs/teams for 2024/25 season
- 31st – All outstanding 2023/24 invoices must be settled in order for clubs to be eligible to join the new season
- 8th/9th – Spring Season YEL Awards at the Royal Concert Hall
- 13th – ONLINE AGM 8pm start – Club Secretaries to attend
- 1st – Last day for U9-U14 team applications to be received to guarantee inclusion in 2024/25 season season to club affiliation being completed
- TBC – 7pm Online club meeting
- TBC – 8pm Online meeting for all new managers for the 2024/25 season. All existing YEL managers are also welcome to join.
